Our first ever race wow!
We came 8th in qualifying against some of the best in the world. More than happy just to be here having a great time with a running truck. Reece and Dylan making us proud! This truck was built in four months and only driven once before this race. Dylan has never driven the truck before today. The truck still needs loads of work, we have spent the last 2 days trying to sort the suspension out. we have had to replace a burst water hose and a just wheel bearing and remove the bypass shocks for now. Race starts today so lets crack on, get some breaky. Then give the truck a full check over before our first heat.
Ok so what a day! We blew the clutch on the first lap – absolutely devastated! Hit some traffic, got stuck in a bog, broke down and had to be recovered back to the pits. We though it was all over. Thankfully Rob Ward lent us his spare clutch and Karl Auckland pushed us to change it when we didn’t think it was possible and we had pretty much given up. Rothwell Offroad have an amazing pit crew who despite multiple problems of their own jumped on our truck to help us out, we cant thank them enough. This has brought to light that we need to change our transfer box to alter our ratios, so more work to be done. Other ideas are up rated shafts, R380 stubby shaft gear box which will move the gear stick position and improve rear prop angle. We also need to sort out the cab floor so we can get the gear box out quicker.
We managed to do really well on the Sunday and were hot on the heels of the leaders, we were smashing it. Truck was running great and we were flying. We had a couple of overheating issues and were constantly adjusting the suspension. The race was red flagged right at the end which was good for us as our power steering pump failed and we had no steering. We got the truck back to the pits and started to pack away and found out we had come 5th and we were made up! We got the racing bug now and couldn’t wait to get the truck back on the ramp in preparation for our next race.
